High voltage equipment

This course is intended for the vessel electrical and electronic personnel, control room operators and engineers who may be required to operate, maintain, repair or perform troubleshooting on high voltage equipment or work in high voltage equipment environments. Course aims and objectives are providing the participants with a general introduction and training/retraining on high voltage systems with respect to vessel installations and standard safety practices. At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • understand the procedures and precautions with respect to vessel installations and electric propulsion and the ramifications on such operations
  • understand HV equipment safety features, operation and functions and basic protection systems
  • understand the proper responses and procedures in case of electric shock
  • understand the proper use and care of personal protective equipment
  • understand the proper use and care of test equipment and tools
  • understand the procedures for working in close proximity to high voltage energized equipment
  • understand the procedures for safe HV equipment isolation
  • understand the procedures for working on deenergized high voltage equipment

Each candidate wishing to complete the training on this course must be:

  • not younger than 18 years
  • have maritime education as an engineer officer

Persons successfully completing this course receive the appropriate certificate. Training course “High voltage equipment” starts every week. Registration on this course is conducted in room 114.
