Radar Navigation (Operation Level)

This course is developed for masters, officers in charge of a navigational watch and chief officers. The course includes the following: obtaining knowledge of fundamentals of radar and automatic radar plotting aids (ARPA), studying to interpret and analyse information obtained from radar including displays operation, detection of misrepresentations, false echoes, sea return etc. The application of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, plotting techniques and competence regarding true motion etc. are also considered. Practical exercises are carried out on the simulator manufactured by Ship Analytics (USA) Company and are conducted by highly qualified instructors having both academic work experience and practical experience. The form of training is daytime, evening and individual. The certificates are issued (depending on the course) after training and certification on the programme “Radar navigation – operational level (radar navigation, radar plotting and use of ARPA)”, in accordance with the provisions of sections A-1/12 of the STCW Code, which meets the standards of competence with regard to radar and ARPA use to provide safety of navigation as set out in table A-II/1 of the abovementioned Code, which meets the standards of competence with regard to use of radar, ARPA and modern navigational systems providing decision-making process and coordinating search and rescue operations as set out in table A-II/2 of the abovementioned Code. ARPA/RADAR courses enrolment, training and issue of documents are realised in accordance with the STCW 78/95 Convention requirements set out in regulations II/I, II/2, II/3, in sections A-1/12, A-II/1, A-II/2, B-I/12. The next refresher training followed by new documents’ issue must be conducted each 5 years.
